Council’s Thanksgiving Donations

COUNCIL FOOD DONATIONS CONCLUDE ANNUAL PILGRIM-AGE TO CAPITAL AREA FOOD BANK

In an annual tradition, the Council has made a generous donation of non-perishable food items to the Capital Area Food Bank.  The donation was made in the context of WHUR’s Food2Feed campaign, which concluded with a live radio broadcast just steps from the John A. Wilson Building.

In what was either a total coincidence, or a savvy allusion to the upcoming transition to the 21st Council Period, the combined donations of all councilmember and Council administrative offices totaled…twenty-one overflowing boxes. At roughly forty items per box, that means that a generous Council donated over 800 individual food items to assist those in need this upcoming holiday season.  Cans, bags, bottles, and boxes of foods both sweet and savory were among the copious bounty donated to the esteemed local charity.

Among the highlights of the food drive was the festive collection of the donation boxes from each Council office. Two kind pilgrims, in full regalia, made their way from office to office, offering holiday well-wishes and gathering the donor/s for a commemorative photo.  Following the pilgrims’ progress was a volunteer photographer and a handcart operator who captained his “Mayflower of Meals” through the halls of the John A. Wilson Building.
