All 31 Rediscovered Historic Inauguration Photos Now Available on Councils Website
In January and February, an exhibit of eleven photos was on exhibit in the Atrium of the Wilson Building. Now, for the first time, the complete set of 31 photos drawn from our cache of rediscovered historic negatives are available to the public online. The 31 images constitute a historic triple-play in terms of their content, in that they depict:
- The Inaugural Parade of William Howard Taft as the 27th President on March 4, 1909
- The District (now Wilson) Building just months after its dedication
- A historic blizzard so bad that the Presidential Oath was extraordinarily moved indoors
Full information on the rediscovered photos is available here.
We encourage local historians and photo enthusiasts to vigorously examine the details of each photo. If you make any interesting discoveries, or hatch any intriguing theories, please let us know via e-mail at jgibson@dccouncil.gov.
